Dr. Ricky D. Ertell,  Assistant Director of Counseling and Disability Services at Texas A & M Galveston and Licensed Professional Counselor at Stephen F. Austin Community Health Center is a dedicated counselor who serves in a variety of roles at the university and throughout the community.

Dr Ertell has also served as Adjunct Professor for the University of Houston Clear Lake Counseling Program he is a dedicated professor who has taught a variety of subjects. Dr. Ertell has taught Internship, Practicum, Assessment, Theories of Counseling, and Stress Management during his time at the University.

He has devoted his time and efforts to help students improve their skills and prepare for what they will see in schools and private practice once they graduate.

Dr. Ertell is active in the community having served on many boards and committees including Hospice Care Team and The United Way of Brazoria County. He is actively involved in his church and he has served as a volunteer at the Houston Area Women’s Center.

He has been honored by his former students on multiple occasions by being recognized as Who’s Who Among American Teachers. He has written and received several grants in student preparation for the workforce and Tech Prep programs. Dr. Ertell also received the Betty Bliss Scholarship for perspective counselors. He is a veteran of the United States Navy where he received the Meritorious Service Award.

Dr. Ertell earned his doctorate from Baylor University in Educational Leadership. He also earned an M.S. in Counseling and a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL).

He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and an LPC Supervisor. He is certified by the State of Texas as a Special Education Teacher, Counselor, Special Education Counselor, and Principal. He has served as an Elementary, Middle, and High School Counselor. In addition he has also served as a school administrator.

Dr. Ertell has presented on many occasions including the Texas Counseling Associations Annual Convention and various counseling and educational organizations.

Currently Dr. Ertell in addition to his duties at Texas A & M University in Galveston contracts with several agencies to provide counseling services to clients of all ages. He also assists with testing at several colleges and universities.
